For referrers
ME/CFS information for referrers
ME/CFS is a complex, disabling condition that can be challenging to diagnose. There is no single biomarker, so careful exclusion of common alternative diagnoses before referral is essential. Extended consultations are used for diagnostic clarification, pacing education, and practical management planning.
Referral and triage requirements
- General physical examination
- Laboratory results: CBC/diff, electrolytes, calcium/phosphate, CRP, TSH, LFT, renal panel, CK, iron studies, vitamin B12/folate, HbA1c, rheumatoid factor/anti-CCP, coeliac screening, urine analysis
- Further tests where indicated
- Patient email address
Incomplete referrals may be declined, as adequate pre-assessment is essential for diagnostic accuracy and efficient use of consultation time.
