ME/CFS information for patients
This clinic provides diagnostic assessment and an initial management plan. It is not designed to provide routine long-term specialist follow-up for all patients with established ME/CFS.
Referral priorities
We prioritise patients who are under 20 years of age, have been unwell for less than approximately six months, and have not yet received a confirmed diagnosis or specialist assessment. Patients outside these criteria may be considered where there is significant diagnostic uncertainty or another compelling clinical reason.
What to expect
- Consultations take place via Telehealth.
- The initial consultation focuses on diagnosis, pacing, symptom management and an initial plan.
- After assessment, care is usually returned to your GP with a comprehensive management plan.
- Further specialist review is arranged only where clinically indicated.
Your GP is required
All patients must have an ongoing relationship with a New Zealand GP. Telehealth prescribing has practical and regulatory limitations. We work with your GP, who remains responsible for ongoing general medical care, implementation of recommendations where appropriate, and most repeat prescribing.
Fees
- Initial Telehealth consultation (45 minutes): $375
- Follow-up Telehealth consultation (30 minutes): $250
- Private insurance may contribute with prior approval.
- WINZ may assist eligible patients through a disability allowance.
If you already have a diagnosis
Patients with established ME/CFS generally benefit most from ongoing care coordinated by their GP, supported by ANZMES, local ME/CFS organisations, the Bateman Horne Center and the resources on this website.
